Cruise ships returning to the South American ports of Cartagena and Santa Maria is finally a reality and more than a year and a half.

On Tuesday the 24th of August the first ship docked at the Port of Cartagena. The first ship arriving finally kicks of their 2021-2022 cruise season.

According to officials, 26 cruises are projected to arrive in Cartagena and seven more will dock in Santa Maria, both cities are located in the Greater Caribbean region of the country.

The recovery represents a 57& increase in ships calls vs. the 2019-2020 season.

Maria Ximena Lombana, the Minister for Trade, Industry and Tourism noted “We continue working for the safe economic reactivation of the country and its tourism sector”

Winstar Cruise Line’s, Star Breeze docked in Cartagena with a total of 312 passengers and 190 crew members. The ship is currently sailing a 14-day itinerary which also takes in Aruba, Curacao and Panama.

Multiple cruise lines have committed to also arrive in Colombia in the come months ahead including Celebrity Cruises, Royal Caribbean, Carnival Cruise Line, Princess Cruises and MSC Cruises.

Whilst Norwegian Cruise Lines and the luxury Yacht brand of Rittz Carlton have committed to porting in Santa Maria, Colombia.
