Aid arriving in Freeport, Bahamas

Donald Trump has sent out one of his Tweets asking the Cruise Lines for Help. Of course, this comes in the wake of the tragic events that have unfolded in the last week after Hurricane Dorian left catastrophic damage in the Bahamas.

Trump’s tweet coming days and days after all the major cruise lines already put into effect Hurricane relief plans to help the people in the Bahamas the best they can. Cruise Lines have been sending food, water, and aid via cruise ships visiting Freeport, Bahamas.

Of course, the cruise lines are still limited to only anchoring off the coast of Grand Bahama island until risk assessments are completed allowing ships to dock at the port facility in Freeport its self.

All the major cruise lines including Carnival, Royal Caribbean, Celebrity and Bahamas Paradise line are all doing what they can to help out. Ships are currently arriving daily with 10s of thousands of ready-made meals bringing them ashore in tugs and barges to be handed out by local authorities to those more in need.

Royal Caribbean has even come forward and it’s supplying up to 20,000 meals per day via the ships that are arriving each morning this week. Making that many meals per day might not seem realistic, but cruise ships with 1500 – 2000 crew members on board its something I know can be achieved when everyone bands together.

It is even being made possible with some extra help from passengers on the ships diverting to Freeport. The cruise lines are setting up meal stations in the main dining rooms after hours and inviting people to help out.

On a personal note, I can tell you first hand how crew, officers, and staff will go above and beyond to help out people in need. I was on the Carnival Triumph back in 2013 when the ship was left stranded in the Gulf of Mexico and was eventually towed to Mobile, Alabama. I know what it takes to do what is needed to be done in times of need, and with little need to be asked to help out.

I know each every person working for the Cruise Lines are doing their utmost best they can under the circumstances. Getting a Donald Trump tweet days and days later isn’t something we need to spring us into action.

Cruise lines have previously helped out in the past lending their ships for aid as FEMA previously chartered the Carnival Fascination and Grand Celebration following hurricanes in 2017. Carnival also chartered ships to FEMA following Hurricane Katrina to help house emergency workers.

In my opinion, the Cruise lines have stepped up significantly in the last week, offer as much help as possible on short notice delivering supplies, relief workers and even helping to evacuate local Bahamian to other islands or back to the US mainland.
